Future Fires are burning at Contact.

Wednesday 13 February

Future Fires is a new company formed by five young emerging artists at Contact Theatre. Funded as a Pilot Project by the Arts Councils Young Peoples Participatory Theatre Project, Future Fires will enable the artists to continue their professional development as facilitators and project managers. With the support of Contact Theatre they will be running their own community arts projects.

The five artists have all been involved in a number of projects at Contact over recent years. They originally came together as a group as a result of the recent visit by Afroreggae to Contact, when the five young artists were inspired by the Brazilian groups commitment to using the arts as a tool for community activism.

The Future Fires artists and projects are:-

Samira Arhin-Acquaah who will use hip-hop workshops to create a safe space to explore issues around sexuality and gender

Borhan Mohammedi who will be making a film with young refugee men exploring their experiences of life in Manchester.

Kelly Morgan who will create a piece of street performance with local young people based on Carnival traditions

Martin Stannage who will work with young people and the elderly in Old Trafford using playback theatre to break down barriers between them.

Yusra Warsama who will create a piece of live performance with young isolated refugee women.
