New! RAW Jam
Micheal Wilson, a talented spoken word artist has been working the Manchester poetry circuit for nearly 4 years now, this RAW Jam is the first piece of theatre he’s worked on. He is heavily involved with the art academy at the Islington Mill in Salford and now busies himself with street art projects round the city, and his second novel.
On Thursday 19th June RAW Jam will present excerpts from Micheal's larger work in development concerning his experiences of mental illness and some of its mis-conceptions from the public and the media. Join us as performers and poets launch this work-in-progress, we will explore myths and de-mythologize some aspects of mental illness.
Micheal has been using his residency to develop this work, based on interviews with people about mental health issues. You can continue to interact with this project-
How do you think mental illness is portrayed by the media?
Do you think mental illness is somewhat romanticised?
What are the benefits to having a mental illness, if any?
Leave your opinions, thoughts and experiences on the forum here. Or drop into Contact and leave a message and piece of your own art work on Micheal's interactive discussion board here
RAW Jam is a free short event, starting at 1pm. To find out more about how to curate your own work-in-progress or bring your new work to contact Hannahsalt@contact-theatre.org
