On October 10th 2009 Manchester-based cult singer-songwriter Kirsty McGee and her band The Hobopop Collective performed and recorded a sold out show at Contact. The idea was to make her next record in a happening place, with an audience in the room, in one take.
'No.5' is to be the result, and represents the band’s selections from the set they played on the night. Featuring performances from some of Manchester's top players as well as members of The Brute Chorus, Guillemots and the Richard Hawley band, it is due for release on Kirsty's own label, Hobopop Recordings in early 2010. The album will be presented with no overdubs or repairs, exactly as the songs were performed on the night, and she'll be sending a copy to everyone who was in the audience that night.
Kirsty and her band have started a new blog, specially to document what happens to the recordings after the show - you can swing by now and keep up with the progress of the project at http://kirstymcgeeno5.blogspot.com
