guess I'm a creative little being. I sing, write, act, dance and present.
I have a show on the Manchester Underground music station Unity Radio - www.unityradio.fm
I didn't really decide or set out to become a playwrite, for me it was a logical progression from being an actress that found difficulty in finding new and exciting scripts to work with. I have always loved writing, even the physical act of putting pen to paper; be it poems or lyrics, and I jumped at the chance to learn more about playwriting.
The residency at contact has been a fantastic opportunity to learn the intricacies of writing a play in a supportive and experimental atmosphere.
I'm much more confident about my writing ability now, and hope to write a longer piece in the future.
My piece 'Rule Of Thumb' attempts to raise questions and create dialogue about the issues we face in our relationships with our partners, children, parents, and family. It looks at issues of absent parents, domestic violence, emotional manipulation and our vulnerabilities as human beings.
It's difficult to encapsulate a myriad of complexities in a 30 minute piece, but I've tried to touch on issues to spark conversation. In research for 'Rule Of Thumb' I interviewed several survivors of domestic abuse to whom I am extremely grateful for sharing their stories with me.
