I always knew I wanted to be a writer, but I'm really academically minded. My school expected me to go off to uni to do a good solid degree like English or History, but I put Creative Writing down on my UCAS form instead because, after 2 years of illness from the age of 16 to 18, I decided that in life you should do what you want to do, not what others expect of you. I loved my degree, and even did a Masters degree in Creative Writing afterwards. I loved learning about why stories work and the chance to really experiment with my own writing.

The residency at Contact has given me the chance to write about something I don't think I would ever be able to write about in another form. The play is really personal to me because of some of the issues it touches upon, and it was harder for me to write - from an emotional point of view - than anything I've written before.

This is my first play. I usually write short stories.
