Artyarn is a collaborative fibre arts project coordinated by visual artists Rachael Elwell and Sarah Hardacre. Artyarn aim to use traditional knitting and crochet techniques in contemporary visual arts projects. and aspire to promote the diversity and versatility of knitting and crochet as a medium. Artyarn are exploring this with a visual arts and contemporary craft approach.
Artyarn will deliver a series of knitting and crochet skills workshops, beginning with a presentation illustrating contemporary knitting and the ways it has evolved as a visual art form and culminating in a ‘yarn bombing’ session, installing knitted and crocheted ‘tags’ around the Contact 's space.
Artyarn will also produce a new piece of work,the Knitting Orchestra , amplifying knitting needles and producing an experimental sound piece directly from the act of knitting.
