A co-production between Contact and the Birmingham Repertory Theatre Company in association with Truant Company and Queer Up North.
Smilin’ Through was written by Manchester based writer, Billy Cowan, and developed from Billy's winning script excerpt at Queer Up North's version of Flip The Script - Short Cuts - in 2003.
Reflecting the political landscape of the Troubles in Northern Ireland, just as the peace agreement is announced, Smilin’ Through combines biting comedy with shockingly political insight as Peggy struggles to come to terms with her son Kyle’s sexuality.
Smilin' Through premiered at the Birmingham Rep prior to its run at Contact in Manchester, in 2005.
