An international collaboration between
Contact and Australia’s
Arena Theatre,
Skid 180, written by Manchester poet
Louise Wallwein, premiered in Manchester in April 2006 at
Contact before embarking on a tour in Australia.
Mcstone, a young man in care, decides to make a break from the authorities and establish a life on the streets where he meets a gang of bmx riders. As a misfit and a talented rider, he becomes exposed to a new and subversive courier subculture of revolutionary wheels, finding friendship and information about his identity along the way that leaves him free to create his own future.
True to Contact’s model of working with young people, the script for Skid 180 was developed from its early workshops with young people in Manchester in 2002.
