Live and Direct aims to offer a detailed exploration of the direction and production process involved in making theatre. Four courses have taken place to date, the first in 2002.
Participants were given master classes in direction, production and design, then worked with two professional actors, producing a short piece of theatre presented to the public at a showcase event at Contact, Manchester.
The Live and Direct 5 programme, due to take place in January 2007, will differ from previous courses, looking among its graduates for three directors from Live and Direct 1 - 4.
These three directors will each direct a small production of new work at Contact. Steered by mentors who will oversee the process, the programme will consist purely of a two-week rehearsal period with two professional actors, followed by a one-week shared technical rehearsal and performance time. The culmination of the course will be these pieces of theatre being presented to the public at a showcase event that will run from 25th
– 27th January, 2007 at Contact, Manchester.
