Album Launch: Arun Ghosh & special guests

ARUN GHOSH IS COMING HOME WITH A “NORTHERN NAMASTE”.
Conceived in Calcutta, bred in Bolton, matured in Manchester and now living in London, Arun Ghosh's musical vocabulary and vision reflects his rich geographical heritage. The official homecoming launch of his debut album, “Northern Namaste”, will be held at Contact - the venue where Arun made his debut appearances as a band leader and theatre composer.
The clarinetist front-man will be performing with his Indo-Jazz Sextet, featuring legendary Mancunian drummer Myke Wilson and saxophonist Ed Kainyek, with tabla maestro Aref Durvesh (Nitin Sawnhey, Susheela Rahman), pianist Kishon Khan (Dele Sosime), and free-jazz double bassist, Liran Donin (Led Bib).
The band will be joined by special guest performers, Segun-Lee-French (Speakeasy) and vocalist Wonder. Their music is South Asian in origin, but with a contemporary jazz attitude, rocking urban beats, and the passion of punk. Sweet and timeless melodies give birth to soaring improvisations and raag explorations - driven by a heady mix of dub-reggae bass, tabla trickery and ferocious drum explosions.
Arun Ghosh treads his own path, transcending traditional music genre boundaries. His kaleidoscope of sounds is urgent, meditative, erotic and heartfelt.
This special performance will be followed by Rainy City Music DJs in the Contact Lounge bar.
Northern Namaste will initially be available for purchase from www.arunghosh.com and www.myspace.com/arunghosh on 28th April 2008.
